RE: I forgot my camera!!
so you must have missed the chevy commercial where the silverado is towing a frieght train. Ford f150 towing a plane and ship, this had all been beaten to death on this forum.
Take a good look at the truck ads, they are all guilty of advertising 1/2 ton trucks capable of towing over 10klbs. Buyer beware
I agree with the above....Isn't Ford touting the 11K+ towing in 2009? What has really changed in the drivetrain? 6-speed? That does it for me!! I like the Ford towing 2 toyhaulers the best...
RE: Cummins 5.9 or 6.7?
Just a question as a Tundra owner myself...if the truck has plenty of power for the trailer, why look? Unless of course...bigger trailer!! I came so close to getting a 2007 quad cab Dodge diesel as well, but figured this way I can actually limit my "other" half from talking me into a bigger trailer!! But I have to say...the idea of a toyhauler and a couple quads for the Utah trails sounds good.....so maybe I can single handedly buy our way out of this economy mess!!
CARGO CAPACITY! I am getting tired of standing next to my tundra with a scale worried about how far overweight i am. By the time i am done putting my bike in the bed and hooking up i am over by a couple hunderd punds and there isnt anybody in the truck yet. Basically i have been working a 1/2 ton truck where a 3/4 or above should be...it hasnt complained yet.
Aside from that my tundra does have enough power to move the trailer i have...and there no future plans for a bigger trailer.
Great point...my new bike won't fit in the truck anyway, but even the CBR929 would have overloaded it had I decided to haul it somewhere. Good luck with the new truck...I'm jealous!

RE: The black water tank is empty! NOT 2/3 full
This may sound silly, but we had a similiar problem with our new trailer. Turns out the tanks sensors were not installed the same way on all three tanks. I just took them off the offending tank and made the colors match the other two...worked for me.
RE: Tundra/Travel Trailer Question
I would have to agree that towing a 33' trailer with a half ton is no going to be ideal, but I have seen it many times...and some set-ups look downright frightening. However in the travel trailer section, someone has now mentioned that the new Tundra "is really not meant for towing" which makes me question MY set-up now!!! LOL
RE: Towing OVER capacity..... too many doing this....
Wow! 26 MPG on the highway and 17 towing into a headwind with your Freestar. 19-20 MPG in normal towing. Consumer Reports got 11 MPG in town, 25 MPG on the highway, but only 20 MPG on a 150 trip. They also only averaged 17 MPG overall.
Sorry that it bothers you, Steve, by my fuel economy is almost identical to what Jimmy has reported.
I can agree with that....look at what you are towing!! I pulled a U-Haul car dolly with a motorcycle attached to it years agobehind a Subaru GL wagon and got over 20 MPG too!! But when I got to the smallest grade I was in the truck lane with big rigs bearing down on me while I crawled up the hill!!
To each his own...this thread is so long winded it is silly. I can't tow my trailer with a Freestar if I wanted to...besides...I like the Honda van better anyway!!
RE: generator purchase
I like this topic...it gets beaten like the proverbial dead horse every time. The Champion is louder....proven fact. Most folks that have them state that the inverter style generators are too expensive. Maybe so...but then don't put out your profile showing the world you have a $80,000 TV & TT!!!
RE: Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan as Tow Vehicles
FWIW I tow a trailer that when fully loaded probably is in the range of 7K lbs. That is the trailer, genny, wood, everything. On flat ground, which is not all that often in Nevada/Utah, the Tundra tows very well at whatever speed I want. Toss in a nice 25+ MPH headwind or the 7%+ grade that we negotiate every so often to our local mountain campground, and I KNOW that trailer is back there!! Unless I lived in the plains, I would truly not want a bigger trailer...and even if I did, I would get a diesel anyway.
RE: Titan towing capacity
All the makers have operations in Mexico and Canada. Who cares? Even my Japanese, made in America Honda Accord has mexican parts all over it. Where it is made means zilch anymore, just buy what you like and don't let anybody here tell you one is any better than the other. I have seen more than one Armada towing fivers larger than mine and looking good doing it. Doesn't mean I would, but if I thought it was right, I would replace my Ram with a Titan in a second. If it came with a Cummins Turbo Diesel I would have done it yesterday! Love the Nissan Titan/Armada rigs.
Agreed..
BTW...where was the fiver attached to the Armada? The roof? LOL
RE: Holy Horsepower, Batman
Ordered mine 30 minutes ago...installed after it arrives in 7 days!!
NOT!!! Pretty impressive for sure...don't think it will help out with gas mileage knowing it is under the hood. I have yet to floor the truck as it is, but I doubt I could resist with that.
RE: Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan as Tow Vehicles
So far no one has posted exact fuel economy figures for empty and towing. How come? Are you folks afraid to tell the real mileage numbers? Either will do a good job as long as you stay within the weight/towing ratings for the truck. Will they replace a 3/4 ton diesel? No. but many people do not need or want that large of a truck to tow their smallish trailers. People no matter what need to choose and size the truck to the anticipatated load and camp away.
I am not afraid. My Tundra has gotten as low as 7.5 MPG (in a steady 30-40 MPH direct headwind) to as high as 10.5 MPG on flat ground, which is not a reality in Nevada as it is hilly everywhere. Last trip I got about 10 MPG..and that was going up a grade of no less than 6.3% for 14 miles. Some of it was better than 7%. Of course I got bad mileage then, but going down and the rest of the way worked out to 10 MPG. My trailer was loaded with water, etc. so I figure the weight was close to 7K lbs. My truck is a daily driver for work, and I get around 18 MPG then, including city/freeway driving.
For a mid sized trailer, the Tundra is a great truck...no complaints.
Anyone had this happen with Yamaha 2400iS? And Results!
Over Memorial weekend some camping friends of ours were having issues with their Yamaha 2400 generator. Seemed some of the appliances were not operating correctly. At first we thought it was the converter acting up, as it was making some odd noises. Before they left, we decided to check the output on the generator, and it was only 70 VAC.
Rather than drag it to the dealer and wait, we popped the side covers off, and found the electronics (inverter?) board was tilted about 45 degrees out of it's slot. It is held in place by a large rubber band. Once we put it back in place, all was good. Not sure if there is a tip-over switch in the generator that caused it or what, as we did not tilt it afterward to see if the problem reoccured. Also not sure if the board was tilted during shipping or his regular use.
Just wanted to share what we did, and if anyone has this issue, check that board!!

RE: Half Ton Towing advice
Perfectly normal for that load. Be interesting to see what the Tango itself weighed, as I have a 2008 Tango 276 RBS. I had it fully loaded with water this past weekend and did a pretty long (11 miles) climb to a mountain campground. I calculated the grade using the distance between every 1,000 ft in elevation change, and the grade varied between 6.3% and probably closer to 8% in some sections. The truck would pull in 3rd (it is a 6 speed) at 50 MPH on the lower grades and 40 MPH in 2nd on the steep sections. I just kept my foot out of the throttle and cruised up fine. Sounds like your truck is good for the load you have.
RE: Toyota Tundra
"How much is the CCC of the tundra anyway?"
1,100 lbs I think.
I am over my CCC by at least 200 lbs but under GVWR & GCVW.
I have included my hitch in this calculation to be fair.
The rear kitchen and the placement of the axels is what I believe gives this particular unit it's lighter pin weight.
It really surprised me how well it tows. It's like it's not even there. We stepped up from a 26' TT (6,00lbs loaded) and there was never a time I felt this comfortable towing. That may just be the difference in a TT and a fiver. I can't say for sure.
We recently camped up by Shaver lake. There is a really nice grade going up there and it pulled it very well. I never once felt like the engine was working too hard. At one pont the grade is 11%.
We really like the trailer. It fits us much better that the TT did. The power awning is a hoot. The first timer we unfurled it I had every guy in the park asking us about it. :-)
And yes, I'm sure you could tow it.
Bill
If you have a DC like I do, you should have a bit more CCC than 1,100 lbs. I have a TRD package and the cargo is listed at 1,475 inside the door. Check it on yours, it might be higher than you stated. I always thought the Crew Max trucks had around 1,100 lbs CCC. True though, the rear kitchen helps lower the pin weight.
BTW...Shaver Lake is nice...but I have only been there on motorcycle.

RE: Grey water dumping - is it legal in YOUR state?
Can't say whether it is legal or not. My wife and I just got back from a local campground where there is no dumpstation. When we got home, she asked if I was just going to dump it down the street drain. (We did not use the black tank on the trip) I told her I was not taking any chances and went ahead and used a bucket to take it out 2 gallons at a time and put it down the sink in the garage. Hope that does not get me in trouble!!
RE: How many of you get a laugh at the Toyota Tundra?
All the manufacturers stretch the truth, that is called advertising. While the Tundra may not be a monster truck, I think it is turning out to be a very well built, powerful, comfortable truck that meets the needs of 99.9% of pickup owners. I got to stop by the Toyota dealer today to pick up a part for the Matrix so I will ask the service writer about the Tundras transmissionn problems, he will know, they sell a lot of the trucks. First time I heard of the issue.
Of course my great Ford is suppose to be a flame thrower and I seemed to have missed that, too.I didn't hear about these troubles, either, until the last time I stopped by the dealership with my GMC truck...they are Toyota/GMC/Pontiac/Buick dealers. The service writter had about 4 of them in there and said they were all tranny trouble trucks with people trying to pull what the ads claimed, from heavy horse trailers to pretty large TTs. Could just be that these rednecks think they can overdo them and not a real issue, but it's interesting, to say the least.
Go ahead and tow a train with your GMC and let's see how well the tranny does!! This thread is going nowhere....make it interesting...everybody knows ALL mfg commercials stretch the truth..
Toyota is no exception to stretching the truth, but as alway 1/2 trucks are pretenders in the full size truck category, yes they can pull popups and small boats and trailers, but thats where it stops. They have there place. If you have one and want to tow bigger you are in trouble, but like alot of rver's they are out towing way over there capacity with 1/2, 3/4 , 1 tons
I would have to assume that I am wasting my time by pulling a 27' trailer then, as it can't possibly do it and I should run down and trade it off for a pop-up. Rest assured..I have seen every other half-ton truck dragging around trailers WAAYY bigger than mine, and I say nothing about it. I will look into that trade in right away...
And rsh_757...if you have the time to troll threads all day waiting to chime in when a Tundra one pops up...you have the time to do your pull off and show the world you can win. I can't wait for the Youtube video...good gravy....

RE: Lost battle with Starcraft
That is too bad. I had a hot water issue with mine and it was out of warranty as well...they tried to skate the issue, but it was THEM who hooked the water lines up backward on the HW tank!! It made all the anode rod filings get forced in the lines and plug up the faucets. Needless to say...they did fix it.
RE: Dealers must be hurting
I stopped by the dealers at our local giant automall Sunday afternoon to take a look see at what was new out there for my wife when we eventually have to replace her 4-Runner. Granted it was hot and later on in the day...but the place was pretty much empty. Sundays are great days to just go and look when they are closed, and there are usually people all around....but it was a ghost town. The way things are going I would rather see her try get 200K miles on it and pay the gas prices, rather than making a car payment AND have to pay for gas!!
RE: Need advice to see if my truck will pull a new trailer.
First off...the curb weight of the Tundra seems low, considering mine weighs about 5,500 lbs and is a 4X2. newer model, but I doubt there is that much difference between the two.
That being said, the Starcraft you are looking at shows dry weights on their website. That trailer with options will weigh about 6K lbs. Add propane, a pair of batteries, water, etc. and the unit will weigh over 6,500 lbs. By the time you pack yourselves in the truck, add food and all the other "things" you bring with....bingo you are at maximum towing weight.
Not saying I have not seen this done before, but I doubt it would be enjoyable. Good luck in your trailer searches if you decide against this one.
